Passport Program: Monday night’s class is rescheduled (again)

Sorry guys :-(
Roads should start getting slick this evening when precipitation starts falling.
And you all know how I feel about teenagers driving in questionable conditions!

Passport Class: Thursday evening has been rescheduled

After much thought, we have decided to reschedule tonight’s (Thursday, Feb. 4) Passport class.

With this being the high school program, and many of our students driving themselves, we feel it’s best to err on the side of safety.  We realize some of you might be able to make it safely to UCO for the scheduled class, but we fear many of you may not; and we do not want to put anyone in danger.

Please check your email for information and details on the makeup date.

Winter Weather Manners

As we are gearing up for a winter snowstorm to hit Oklahoma today, I thought it would be good to revisit our “Winter Weather” manners.

- Check on the elderly…

  • Call to make sure they’re OK and offer your assistance.
  • If you’re able to get out, offer to take them food.
  • Offer to shovel their walk or drive.

- When driving, keep a safe distance.

  • This is no time for road rage, or impatience.
  • Do your best to clear the snow from your vehicle.  It’s a bit unnerving (not to mention dangerous) to have a sheet of ice fly off the top of the car in front of you and smash into your windshield.

- Be extra polite to the service providers who may be…

  • trying to get your electricity turned back on
  • trying to deliver your mail
  • trying to keep the entrance to your office building cleared

Stay warm and be safe.  Spring is coming – hopefully soon according to the groundhog.

Manner Monday: Don’t forgot to clear all of the snow from your vehicle

I think it’s safe to say, after last week, we’re all ready to get out of the house.  If your car has been outside during the past week, or is outside during the next snowstorm; please take a few extra minutes to clear the snow from your car before hitting the road.  This includes the hood, roof and trunk.  Just a few days ago, I witnessed something that could have turned ugly, very quickly… but thank goodness, it did not.  A little car, which resembled a snowman, was barreling down the turnpike, when whoosh… the top layer of ice and snow lifted from the roof of the car and smacked into the front of vehicle behind it.  Thank goodness, it hit the front of the following car and not the windshield.  I’m sure it was rather scary for the drive no matter WHERE it hit.

So please, take a few minutes and clear the snow from your vehicle.  And if you are driving and see someone who has snow on top of their car… steer clear and keep your distance!

7th/8th Grade Sunday classes: Rescheduled

Wow, what a weekend of ‘winter weather’.

We have decided to postpone both of the Sunday afternoon 7/8th grade Junior Cotillion classes.

While some of you might be able to make it to Quail Creek Country Club for the scheduled class, we fear many of you may not; and we do not want to put anyone in danger.  In addition, Quail Creek has informed me they are not able to have their parking lot or sidewalks cleared until after the weekend.

The next opportunity for your child to make up this class will be Tuesday, February 9, 5:30-7:00pm at UCO in Edmond.  I will work with the Quail Creek Country Club this upcoming week to see if I can secure an additional date in February for another makeup opportunity.  I will keep you posted.

Also, don’t forget to check my blog for continuing schedule updates.

Thank you for your understanding!

5th Grade: Clarification

CLARIFICATION:

As you are aware, we are not able to move forward with today’s 5th grade scheduled class.

Many of you have responded to my earlier email saying that you are trying to rearrange your schedule for Monday, February 8.  Many of you also responded saying that date is not a possibility for your family.

I will meet with Quail Creek’s event coordinator on Tuesday, when she returns to her office.  At that time, we will work to secure an additional date in February for the Class 4 makeup.  If we are not able to secure another date at Quail Creek, we will then look at another date at UCO, in addition to February 8.  We book our events with both facilities one year in advance, as both Quail Creek and UCO are popular for hosting a myriad of events.

If Monday, February 8 does work for your family, the correct meeting time will be 5:30-7:00pm.

As always, I will keep you informed.

Don’t forget to check my blog for updates as well.

Thank you!
